Feeling stuck in a monotonous routine, I recently picked up a new hobby: planting. I started with 3 flowering seeds, some soil from Metro Department Store, and loam soil from Shopee that cost only Php 19.00 per bag.

However, despite planting a total of 45 seeds—25 Color Cosmos Bonsai seeds, 15 Jasmine seeds, and 5 Peony Flower seeds—only 3 Jasmine seeds have successfully germinated to date. These seedlings have developed sets of leaves and reached a stem height of approximately 1.5 inches. The Cosmos seeds initially germinated but eventually wilted, while the Peony seeds failed to germinate entirely, resulting in a 100% failure rate.

I’d also like to mention that the soil I bought from Shopee doesn’t have any documented record of successful germination. Interestingly, all 3 Jasmine seeds that did sprout were planted in soil from a department store. As for watering, I typically watered every 1–2 days, although I did miss about three days of watering right after planting.

My next plan is to transplant the 3 Jasmine sprouts into their own pots. I’ll use the recently purchased Shopee soil (this time the Ledor brand) for two of them, while the remaining one will be planted using soil from the department store. This way, I can compare the soils and see which one works best for the Jasmine.

Since I’m still a beginner at planting, I plan to experiment and document my observations on this blog while also looking online for advice and tips to improve my chances of success.

Starting next Sunday, I plan to plant the remaining seeds from my initial order, with the following inventory:

• approximately 175 Color Cosmos Bonsai Seeds
• 10 Jasmine Seeds
• 2 Peony Flower Seeds
